Geauga Park District seeks entires for art show, writing contest
Feb 14, 2026
Geauga Park District has put the call out for area artists.
First artists are invited to apply for the newest community art show, “On the Wing…Nature That Takes Flight,” which will be on display from March 28 through July 26 at The West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.
Also, Geauga Par
k District is now accepting entries for its 31st Annual Nature Writing Contest, inviting writers of all ages and experience levels — from seasoned wordsmiths to first-time dabblers — to share their nature-inspired pieces of poetry or prose.
‘On the Wing’
Walk-in artist applications will not be accepted for “On the Wing…Nature That Takes Flight,” according to a news release. There is also no paper form available for entry.
Rather, artwork applications must be completed in advance using the online form that will be posted between Feb. 12 and March 12 at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org under Activities, then Special Events Art Shows. Photos of artwork must also be submitted at that time.
For “On the Wing,” Geauga Park District anticipates a community-fueled show inspired by the beauty, motion and energy of nature that flies, the release stated.
Critically, the theme of “Nature That Takes Flight” must occupy at least two-thirds of all artist submissions. This may be captured in the rapid flutter of a hummingbird, the sweeping glide of an eagle, the aerial acrobatics of dragonflies over a pond, and other airborne moments found in the natural world — but wildlife need not be portrayed as actively flying, either. Rather, artwork must celebrate the types of wildlife that fly, according to the release.
A variety of media are welcome: drawing or painting, photography, other media, and a special youth category for artists ages 12 and under. Up to two entries will be accepted per artist, and all rules and entry guidelines are already posted to the website.
