A water main break and icicles that formed after as well as a train car fire led to closures on MLK Drive and Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia.
A stretch of Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia was closed on Friday as firefighters worked to put out hot spots from a train car fire.
The fire occurred Thurs
day afternoon on a Conrail train car near 2100 MLK Drive on the Wynnefield Heights side of the Falls Bridge. While the fire was placed under control, firefighters continued to work to put out hot spots on Friday as they pumped water from across the bridge.
Due to firefighters using the bridge for their hoses, Ridge Avenue was closed between Midvale Avenue and I-76 at City Avenue. It remained close Friday afternoon.
No injuries were reported in connection to the fire. Officials have not yet revealed the cause.
The incident occurred amid a different closure on MLK Drive. The four-mile route was closed on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. between Sweet Briar Drive and the Philadelphia Museum of Art at Eakins Oval due to a water main break on Girard Avenue above.
Drone footage from NBC10 captured icicles that formed below Girard Avenue and above MLK Drive. The Philadelphia Water Department told NBC10 they were worried about the icicles falling on vehicles below.
The stretch of MLK drive will remain closed until further notice as water department employees work in the area.
