A spokesperson for St. Luke's Health System confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is leasing office space in the Portico North building, near the St. Luke's Meridian Campus. In their statement, St. Luke's Publi c Relations Communications Christine Myron said, "Our understanding, then and now, is that this location is not a processing facility for Immigration and Customs Enforcement."Commercial office space in the building is leased by the General Services Administration (GSA). For years, St. Luke's has worked alongside GSA to lease unused office space to federal agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Social Security Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, among others.St. Luke's does not offer clinical patient care at the Portico North building. As a private organization, the hospital system says any law enforcement agency must coordinate with security and provide a valid warrant to access its facilities.Idaho News 6 reached out to DHS to confirm whether or not ICE is currently occupying the leased office space. A DHS spokesperson responded by saying, ICE will not confirm office locations as our officers are facing a coordinated campaign of violence against them including an 8,000% increase in death threats against them and a 1,300% increase in assaults against them." Is it really news that when a federal agency hires more personnel that they need more space? Thanks to the Big Beautiful Bill, we have an additional 12,000 ICE officers and agents on the ground across the country. Thats a 120% increase in our workforce. - DHS spokespersonIdaho News 6 posed the same questions to GSA regarding a potential ICE presence at the leased office space. In response, a GSA spokesperson shared the following statement: GSA is committed to working with all of our partner agencies, including our patriotic law enforcement partners such as ICE, to meet their workspace needs. GSA remains focused on supporting this administrations goal of optimizing the federal footprint, and providing the best workplaces for our federal agencies to meet their mission. GSA is following all lease procurement procedures in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.ALSO READ | DHS funding at risk after Democrats reject White House counterproposal ...read more read less
