Police are investigating after five back-to-back robberies occurred within blocks of each other in South Philadelphia.
“It’s scary,” neighbor Anthony Sylvester said. “You have to watch. You have to be aware.”
The first robbery happened around 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 17 on the 900 block of
Washington Avenue when a person was pushed off of their electric bicycle by three young men, police said. The suspects got away with the bike as the victim was left with pain in his hand and knee.
A second robbery took place on Feb. 3 around 12:24 a.m. on the 1100 block of Carpenter Street, police reported.
In this incident, three men punched and kicked the victim causing a possible concussion before taking cash, according to police.
Neighborhood surveillance video shared with NBC10 shows three masked men walking along Carpenter Street around Midnight back on Feb. 2 moments before.
Then, around 11:05 p.m. on the same day, another robbery happened on the 1100 block of South 10th Street when three men punched and kicked a person before stealing their money and e-bike, police said.
A fourth robbery under investigation happened on Feb. 11 around 12:03 a.m. on the 1100 block of Annin Street, officials said.
Three men took a wallet that had credit cards and cash from a person, police said. One suspect was on a scooter and a suspect showed off a handgun during the robbery.
The latest of the robberies happened on Thursday, Feb. 12 around 12:48 a.m. near the intersection of 10th and Reed streets, according to officials.
Again, three men pushed the victim from a bicycle as well as punched and kicked them which led to the victim losing consciousness along suffering a possible concussion, police said. The suspects took a wallet and cash.
“It’s obviously hugely concerning. We’re out here all the time. We have a puppy that we walk late at night and we never had an issue like this,” South Philly resident Joe Manning said. “We’re trying to do what we can to band together as a neighborhood to work with police to put a stop to it.”
