EVERGREEN, Colo. A suspect is dead and there were no known injuries following a shooting near Bergen Park in Evergreen, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said late Thursday afternoon.A "significant police" res ponse in the area of Ellingwood Trail between Highway 74 near Bergen Parkway was first reported by Jeffcom911co shortly after 5 p.m. Officials urged residents to avoid the area as police investigated.About eight minutes later, the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office said they were responding to an "active shooter incident" near the intersection of Highway 74 and Highway 66.Jacki Kelley, Jeffco's public information officer, told Denver7 over the phone the shooter was found dead at the scene when deputies arrived and could not say if there were any victims.The sheriff's office confirmed not long after that the shooter whose identity has not been released died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Deputies with the sheriff's office said on X there were "no known victims" following the shooting, but added deputies were still clearing the buildings.This is a developing, breaking news story and will be updated. ...read more read less
