San Francisco teachers strike: Schools closed Friday, contract talks continue
Feb 12, 2026
San Francisco Unified School District campuses will be closed Friday amid a teachers strike poised to enter a fifth day.
The work stoppage started Monday and has put nearly 50,000 students out of school for a week.
On Thursday, picket lines and rallies continued with educators and their suppor
ters.
The union has said it’s clear what their members want: higher wages and fully district-funded health care.
The district said it wants to pay its teachers what they’re due but also has to navigate a massive structural budget deficit.
Both sides say they’re talking, but no deal has been reached.
This is the first strike by San Francisco teachers in nearly 50 years.
