San Francisco Unified School District campuses will be closed Friday amid a teachers strike poised to enter a fifth day. The work stoppage started Monday and has put nearly 50,000 students out of school for a week. On Thursday, picket lines and rallies continued with educators and their suppor ters. The union has said it’s clear what their members want: higher wages and fully district-funded health care. The district said it wants to pay its teachers what they’re due but also has to navigate a massive structural budget deficit. Both sides say they’re talking, but no deal has been reached.
