San Jose police are planning a different strategy to fight crime. As investigators continue to search for the person who shot and wounded five people Sunday night near San Pedro Square, the police department announced Tuesday that for the first time in 25 years it is changing its patrol districts throughout the city. The goal with redistricting patrols is to address growth patterns and reduce response times. “What we did was look at call volume, call severity and response time and we created a more equitable distribution of the work load so it will improve response times throughout the the city,” San Jose police Deputy Chief Gina Tibaldi said. The police department is reducing the number of patrol districts from 16 to 12 to match current staffing levels. The changes will be implemented in November after SJPD does public outreach in the community.
