Walworth County signs contract to transport prisoners to the new Edmunds County Jail

The Walworth County Commission passed a motion to sign a contract with the Edmunds County Jail during their meeting on Tuesday (Feb. 10th).
Members of the recent jail study committee were at the commission meeting to share information on their findings. Dan Heil talked about savings to the County
in the contract with Edmunds County.

Heil told the Commissioners that Walworth County is in a unique situation.

Heil wants to see the County continue to work with neighboring counties.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting the commissioners:
Acknowledged and signed the annual review of open meeting laws;
Signed the intergovernmental contract with South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance;
Set board appointments;
Held land lease auctions;
Visited with Mobridge Executive Director of Housing Jamie Dietterle about his proposal to the landfill to waive tipping fees and decided to table further discussion to the next meeting;
And they heard comments from several taxpayers during Public Forum regarding poor road conditions in the County and negative interactions with the Highway Superintendent.
The next Walworth County Commission meeting will be held Tuesday, March 10th.
