Team USA falls in mixed doubles curling gold medal game vs. Sweden

It’s not gold, but it’s still Olympic glory for Cory and Korey.
The U.S. mixed doubles curling duo of Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin settled for silver after losing the gold medal game 6-5 to Swedish siblings Isabella and Rasmus Wranaa on Tuesday.

s Olympic history entering Milan Cortina, Both of those medals came in the men’s event, so Thiesse is now the first American woman to win an Olympic curling medal.
Thiesse and Dropkin are the first Americans to medal in mixed doubles curling, which was introduced at the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
“This week’s been a dream,” Dropkin said, pausing to collect himself. “Just had a blast playing with Cory.”
Team USA jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first end, Sweden bounced back with two points in the second and the U.S. evened the score at 2-2 through three ends. Sweden re-took the lead with one point in the fourth end.
The two sides traded points in the fifth and sixth ends, giving Sweden a 4-3 lead heading into the home stretch. Team USA bounced back with two points in the seventh end to retake the lead, but Sweden cemented its win with two points in the eighth and final end.
Dropkin and Thiesse admitted they could’ve been “a little bit sharper” in the gold medal game, but they are still proud of their Milan Cortina performance.
“We had an amazing week. Man, we’re on the podium,” Dropkin said. “We’re Olympic silver medalists.”
