The Minions made it to the Olympics after all. Spain’s Tomas-Llorenc Guarino Sabate competed in Tuesday’s men’s short program at the Milan Cortina Olympics following a dramatic last-minute scramble to clear the Minions music he skates to during the short. Sabate had revealed just days before official competition started that his music had not been approved, sparking global outrage for the skater known for dressing in head-to-toe Minion garb. He fears the iconic blue overalls with a yellow shirt underneath: the official Minions uniform. We’ve secured the licenses for all four songs, and I’ll be able to skate the Minions at the Olympic Games,” Sabate wrote on social media. Sabate, a six-time national champion, scored a 69.80 in the men’s short program on Tuesday. The 26-year-old was not considered to be a medal contender at these Olympic Games. Sabate came in 20th at last year’s world championships. Regardless of score, his performance earned him a rapturous reaction from the crowd Tuesday at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.
