INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Hamilton Southeastern Schools is looking to honor World Down Syndrome Day in style. World Down Syndrome Day is March 21. The date was chosen because it’s the third month and 21st day, representing the extra third 21st chromosome that people with Down Syndrome have. HSE students want to raise awareness of Down Syndrome ahead of the big day by collecting socks. Mismatched socks are worn on World Down Syndrome Day to symbolize the mismatched chromosomes, and chromosomes are often thought to look like socks. The goal is to collect enough socks for every student and staff member. To encourage donations, organizers set up an Amazon wish list. Click here to check it out.
