One of the most iconic moments of the Super Bowl LX halftime show was when, while Bad Bunny was singing, a pastor was seen on stage marrying a couple, dressed in white, surrounded by dancers. Antonio Reyes, a pastor at Project Church in south Sacramento, officiated the ceremony that surprised man y and raised the question of whether or not it was real. “Yes, it was a real wedding. Three hours before the event, we had a ceremony with Benito as one of the witnesses. We had the privilege of performing the ceremony beforehand and simply recreating that moment during the show,” Antonio confirmed. Antonio told Telemundo 48 how he found out he would be participating in such a major event: “The truth is, I had nothing to do with it. I spent many years in Southern California, in Los Angeles, and I had friends who were in the entertainment industry. I received a call a few weeks ago. One of my friends said there was a couple who wanted me to marry them, but she didn’t know who they were,” Antonio recounted. “So I said, ‘Yes, give them my number, I’m willing to have a conversation with them.’ At that point, they sent us a confidentiality agreement, and we signed it, but I hadn’t read the contract until my wife read it completely, and that’s when she literally started screaming in the kitchen, and that’s when we realized it was for the Super Bowl.” Antonio emphasized that Bad Bunny’s idea with the wedding was to send a message of unity to the country. “In a time where the prevailing narrative is one of disunity and division, Benito wanted to communicate unity, and part of that was also bringing us in, a real couple who were going to get married, a pastor and he wanted to bring real people to his show. So part of it had to do with a narrative of truly and honestly representing who we are as Latinos and bringing in real people, because they could have hired actors, but they decided to bring us in,” Antonio explained.
