MUNCIE, IND. (WOWO) A Muncie man with a lengthy criminal driving history is behind bars after police say he crashed a vehicle into a home and fled the scene while dragging his injured girlfriend. According to court documents referenced by WISH-TV, 32-year-old Aaron Ward was driving near East Memoria l Drive and South Shipley Avenue when his vehicle ran off the road, crossed a snow embankment, and struck the front porch of a home. The impact caused the porch to collapse before the vehicle continued rolling down the street. Witnesses reported seeing a man and woman flee the scene, with the woman bleeding and being pulled along by the man, police said. Officers later found the abandoned vehicle with red stains inside and on the exterior doors. Investigators later obtained social media videos that police say showed Ward at the crash scene. Officers conducted a welfare check at a nearby home, where they found the injured woman with significant facial bruising. She was taken to a hospital for treatment. After initially denying involvement, police say Ward admitted to driving after being shown the video evidence. He told officers he believed he had blacked out. Ward was arrested on preliminary charges including driving while suspended resulting in injury, leaving the scene of a crash causing injury, reckless driving causing bodily injury, and driving without ever having been licensed. He is being held in the Delaware County Jail on a $6,500 bond. Additional formal charges are pending.
