All Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library locations will be accepting food donations for local food pantries until March 12 in conjunction with the Empty Bowls Fundraiser. The project is co-sponsored by the North Coast Lions and the Eastlake Women’s Club, and donations can be dropped of at any of the libraries: • Eastlake Public Library at 36706 Lakeshore Blvd. • Willoughby Public Library at 30 Public Square • Willoughby Hills Public Library at 35400 Chardon Road • Willowick Public Library at 263 E. 305th St. Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities around the world to raise money for food-related charities to care for, as well as feed the hungry in their communities. The initiative supports food-related charitable organizations around the world and has raised millions of dollars to help end hunger, according to Empty Bowls’ website. Kathleen Jozwiak, building manager at the Willowick Public Library, is coordinating the event. “We will be selling 50 tickets,” she said. “We will sell more if we get more artisans to donate bowls.” North Coast Lions does a lot to combat hunger, Jozwiak said. “We’ve had food drives in the past and have volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank,” she said. “Lions’ motto is simply ‘We Serve.’ ” Since 1965, the Eastlake Women’s Club has worked on and supported community projects, as well as taken on volunteer opportunities locally, county wide, state wide, nationally and internationally. The club is a part of the Ohio Federation of Women’s Clubs, as well as its national counterpart, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. For a $20 donation on March 12, from 5 to 7 p.m., attendees will be able to get a unique, handcrafted bowl to keep in addition to soup, bread and dessert, Jozwiak said.
