Henrico seeks community input for climate action, adaption strategy
Feb 06, 2026
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County is asking for input from the community for the development of a Climate Action and Adaptation Strategy (CAAS), which aims to help county operations as well as residents.
Henrico's decision to develop a CAAS is based on wanting to help reduce greenhouse g
as emissions and build general resilience to the predicted impacts of climate change on frequent and severe weather, said Samantha Hudson, director of the county's sustainability division.
People can share perspectives on current climate action throughout the county and provide feedback in a public survey from now through March 16 -- which can be found here.
There are also several open-house meetings planned for residents to share their thoughts:
Thursday, Feb. 19, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Varina Area Library, 1875 New Market Road
Thursday, Feb. 26, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Glen Allen Branch Library, 10501 Staples Mill Road
Monday, March 2, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuckahoe Area Library, 1901 Starling Drive
Tuesday, March 3, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Fairfield Area Library, 1401 N. Laburnum Ave.
Thursday, March 12, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Twin Hickory Area Library, 5001 Twin Hickory Road
Hudson also said that Henrico has improved energy efficiency in buildings, and has constructed and certified 25 facilities in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards, while expanding access to public transportation and installing rooftop solar arrays -- all in the name of enhancing sustainability.
