The South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 15 counties during the month of February. The checkpoints will take place in Jackson, Stanley and Walworth counties in central South Dakota. Other counties where sobriety checkpoints will be held are Brookings, Charles Mix, Codingt on, Davison, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn and Yankton. The monthly checkpoints are intended to discourage impaired driving. They are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with assistance from local law enforcement agencies. Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their county. Drivers who have been drinking are encouraged to designate a sober driver or use commercial or public transportation. The Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are agencies of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. ...read more read less
