2-6-26-Patty’s Picks INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — “Solo Mio,” a romantic comedy starring Kevin James, opened in theaters Feb. 6. The film follows an older groom who is left at the altar and decides to take his planned honeymoon to Rome alone. Film critic Patty Spitler rated the movie four ou t of five stars, praising its focus on older adults finding love. Directed by brothers Charles and Daniel Kinnane, the 96-minute film is rated PG for some language. The story centers on Matt Taylor, portrayed by James, a single older man who believes he will never find true love. After planning a wedding and honeymoon in Italy, Matt is abandoned at the altar. He chooses to move forward with the trip, turning the honeymoon into a solo vacation in Rome, where he encounters a determined local woman and several vacationing couples. James also served as a co-writer on the project. Spitler highlighted the authenticity of the storytelling and characters. “I love the fact that it’s real people doing a real script with real writing, and it’s perfect for a Valentine’s movie date,” Spitler said. She added that James is “branching out” creatively by taking on new formats and roles. The film also stars Alyson Hannigan as Meghan. Spitler noted that James underwent a physical transformation for the role, appearing bald with dark facial hair. She described the film as visually striking and recommended it particularly for older audiences. Released ahead of Valentine’s Day, the film begins with heartbreak but focuses on Matt’s journey of coping with loneliness while experiencing Rome as an unexpected solo getaway. ...read more read less
