Much like their neighbors and fellow resident at The Pond, Kenston, had to endure Feb. 4 in an earlier game, Chagrin Falls faced an unintended indignity following its Baron Cup III semifinal against Aurora at Brooklyn. The door to the Tigers’ locker room was locked. So the team had no choice but t o wait outside until the issue could be resolved. In that moment, Chagrin felt the totality of what had occurred in the fateful third that had preceded. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they felt it approximately 12 times over. PHOTOS: Chagrin Falls vs. Aurora hockey, Feb. 4, 2026 Henry Cimperman gave Chagrin the lead after two with a power-play tally, but Jared Janzig — sporting the No. 12 sweater for the Greenmen — had four goals including a third-period hat trick as Aurora stormed back to take a 6-4 win. The Tigers exit Baron Cup III at 10-16-1. The sophomore winger was a zone-edge problem all evening for Chagrin, but especially so in the final 15. "I think that, ultimately, like any game, it's who's driving harder and which way the puck is bouncing," Chagrin coach Craig Hoberman said. "They had some opportunities. The puck bounced their way. And honestly, we had some great opportunities. We missed the net a bunch of times. If you're not going to hit the net, you're not going to score. "So little things that we talked about all year that we just need to clean up — going to the net, looking for rebounds, making sure our shots were on net, not around the net. It made the difference in the third period for sure." The Tigers, seeking their fourth Baron Cup final berth in program lore and first since 2021, went on the power play late in the second period as a result of a tripping penalty. The one who drew the trip was the one who capitalized on the man advantage, as Cimperman buried a rebound at 14:55 to make it a 3-2 game after two. 🏒 Henry Cimperman at 14:55 on PP so ...End of 2Chagrin 3Aurora 2I had shots 15-10 Chagrin pic.twitter.com/jrSwNQSwiw — Chris Lillstrung (@CLillstrungNH) February 5, 2026 That was a high-water mark, as was having a 2-0 lead in the second after a pair of Josh Baraona goals. Then the tide swept out to sea at Chagrin's expense. Janzig struck at 2:28 to knot the game, 3-3. He was heard from again loud and clear at 3:51 with a shelfie gloveside. Then at 8:48, Jonny Janzig got a look in front after Ian Gable threw a puck toward the crease. Before the Tigers could fully grasp the notion, they were down, 5-3. Then it got to be a more bumpy ride. At 11:21, Gable won a puck along the back boards of his D-zone and delivered a perfect breakout for Janzig to the tape in the neutral zone. Janzig walked in a wrister to go up, 6-3. Cimperman provided momentary relief with a snappy wrister high at 12:33. Chagrin also went on the power play through a hook and opted 6-on-4 with Hoberman pulling his netminder. But one last gasp was not to be, as Janzig got involved along the boards twice to cycle the puck out of the zone and preserve the victory for Aurora (10-10-1). "Yeah, we felt like we had momentum," Hoberman said about heading into the third. "Going into the third, we score on a power-play goal with five seconds left in the period. We felt like we had some really good momentum. They wanted it. We just came up short." He then cleaned up a rebound at 5:29 of the second off an initial Cimperman wrister. The game's start was later than its scheduled 8 p.m. puck drop. Because the middle game of the night, the other Baron Cup III semifinal between Westlake and Canfield, was delayed at 6:59 of the first for a half-hour due to a hole in the ice by the top of the left faceoff circle on the east side of the rink. ...read more read less
