KEY TAKEAWAYS: Breeze Airways launches its first international route from MSY to Cancun Weekly nonstop Saturday service begins Feb. 7 Introductory one-way fares start at $108 from New Orleans Breeze becomes the first airline in over a decade to gain FAA Flag Carrier certification Breeze Airways will take off on its first-ever international flight from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Saturday, Feb. 7, launching nonstop service to Cancun, Mexico. The inaugural flight departs MSY for Cancun at 2 p.m., with a return flight from Cancun to New Orleans scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday evening. The service will operate once weekly at those same times every Saturday. The flight marks Breeze’s first international route from New Orleans. Breeze markets itself as a “premium low-cost” airline, offering free family seating, onboard Wi-Fi, and no change or cancellation fees. One-way “no flex fare” tickets begin at $108 from MSY to Cancun and at $123 from Cancun to MSY. The MSY-Cancun route was originally announced in September 2025 as part of the Utah-based airline’s international expansion plans. “This expansion is an exciting milestone for Breeze and our Guests in New Orleans,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO, in a previous press release. “This new route to Cancun not only brings new international service to our guests, but also the introduction of our brand new A220-300 aircraft to the market. With added convenience and our diverse product offering, we know the community will enjoy this nonstop service.” Breeze Airways has steadily expanded its footprint at MSY since launching service there in 2021, making New Orleans one of its crew bases. Over the past year, Breeze has launched nonstop flights from New Orleans to Charleston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, and Tampa. Breeze now offers 17 nonstop routes from New Orleans and operates more than 300 year-round and seasonal routes to 81 cities in the U.S. and internationally. To begin international service from MSY, Breeze obtained certification from the Federal Aviation Administration as a U.S. Flag Carrier, making it the first airline in more than a decade to undergo the evaluation process. Several other Breeze Airways-served airports are also rolling out new international routes to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. With the launch, Breeze Airways joins American, Delta, Southwest, Spirit, and United as carriers offering nonstop service between New Orleans and Cancun. The routes eliminate the need for connecting itineraries through hubs such as Atlanta, Dallas or Houston. “Having New Orleans selected as one of their [Breeze’s] inaugural cities for international service speaks volumes about New Orleans’ position as a premier destination and our airport’s growing connectivity,” said Kevin Dolliole, director of aviation for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, in a previous press release. “This new nonstop service to Cancun will provide our travelers with seamless access to one of Mexico’s most popular destinations.” ...read more read less
