One day after Cal State Bakersfield was placed on lockdown due to a threat, a similar incident unfolded at Bakersfield College, causing panic among students, faculty, and parents especially after it was confirmed that elementary
school students were on campus for a field trip at the time. The emergency alert posted tuesday around 10:50 at the top of the website reads: " EMERGENCY ALERT BC Main Campus ONLY - There is an emergency on the BC Panorama Campus ONLY.If you are on BC Panorama Campus LOCKDOWN immediately.Lock and barricade all doors and windows. Move out of sight. Remain in place and stay quiet. Wait for instructions from law enforcement."Police vehicles flooded Bakersfield College on Tuesday, sealing off all exits and surrounding nearby cars as anxious families waited for updates. The campus was placed on lockdown following an anonymous threat, though officials did not disclose specific details.Among those waiting near police was a father of a Crescent Elementary third-grade student who asked to remain anonymous.Ive been notified that BC is on lockdown. All third-grade students from the school are secure in a classroom, he said. I believe they are supposed to get transported back to school.Bakersfield College spokesperson Lanina Andrews later confirmed the lockdown was initiated due to an anonymous threat.Shortly after the announcement, three buses carrying the elementary students were seen leaving campus, signaling their safe release.Once the field trip group was cleared, Bakersfield College students were also allowed to exit around 2pm.One BC student, who requested anonymity, described the frightening moment she learned of the lockdown.I just got out of class about to go to my next class when I got an email thinking it was an assignment, she said. All of a sudden I read lockdown hide where you can, so I just went to the nearest room, the piano room downstairs.Another student said the situation felt especially alarming given the lockdown at Cal State Bakersfield just a day earlier. It was a call, from what students are aware of, and it was connected to the CSUB call yesterday it was the same type of threat, she said.Evening classes at Bakersfield College were canceled as a precaution.Still, the student said her main concern throughout the ordeal was for the children visiting campus. They turned off all the lights, closed the door, and said we were staying inside,She explained. The only thing that worried me was that we had a field trip on campus today with a bunch of elementary school students, but they were also safely tucked away in classrooms.Police emphasized that regardless of whether a threat is deemed credible, all such reports must be treated seriously.Authorities also reminded the public that making threats against a school is a crimeStay in Touch with Us Anytime, Anywhere: Download Our Free App for Apple and Android Sign Up for Our Daily E-mail Newsletter Like Us on Facebook Follow Us on Instagram Subscribe to Us on YouTube
