Feb 03, 2026
Trinity Cathedral will host a service of Evensong and Prayers for The Very Rev. René John.
The longtime Dean and Rector will retire at the end of February but not before he receives regards for more than two decades of service and best wishes for future endeavors.
On Saturday, February 14, Trinity
Cathedral will host a service of Evensong and Prayers (3 p.m.) followed by a reception in celebration of Dean John’s ministry, sponsored by the Diocese of New Jersey and open to all members and friends of the cathedral and the diocese.
On Sunday, February 15, a 10 a.m. morning service will be followed by a festive coffee hour and farewell celebration for the Dean and his family. Throughout that event attendees will have opportunities to give thanks for Dean René and Andrea John, and for their faithful ministry and witness at Trinity Cathedral and in our diocese.
The Very Rev. René John has served as Dean and Rector of Trinity Cathedral for the past twenty years. His last Sunday at the Cathedral will be February 22, 2026.
A Diocese statement noted that through Dean René’s leadership, Trinity Cathedral has seen growth in outreach and justice ministries, intentional support for financial stability, and a renewed commitment to pastoral care and community connection.
Dean René has shepherded this cathedral through the COVID-19 pandemic and related challenges and has been a pastor and friend to many in our congregation, in the wider Trenton community, and in our diocese. We give thanks for his ministry and wish him and Andrea and their family well in retirement.
