An investigation is underway, officials said, after a 44-year-old man from New York City was killed — and two others were pulled from a burning vehicle — in a crash that happened on the interchange to I-95 at Street Road in Bensalem early Tuesday. According to police, first responders were di spatched to Street Road at the interchange for I-95 at about midnight, early Tuesday, after three vehicles were involved in a deadly crash. Officials said that responders arrived to find a silver 2013 Chevrolet Sonic fully engulfed in flames after the driver had been ejected from the vehicle. The driver, identified as Timur Khabelov, 44, of Brooklyn, New York, was pronounced at the scene, officials said. Two others, a 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old man, were trapped in the burning vehicle when first responders arrived at the scene, officials said. They were pulled from the vehicle and, police said that they have since been hospitalized in critical condition. Police allege that a preliminary investigation into the crash claims the Sonic was travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Street Road as it approached an intersection the interchange to I-95, when it ran a red light and struck a Dodge Journey that was exiting the highway and heading towards Westbound Street Road. As a result of the impact, police said, the Sonic went airborne and crossed the center median where it struck a Honda Accord before coming to rest in the left lanes of Street Road and, subsequently, burst into flames. Police said the incident was captured on traffic cameras operated by the Bensalem Township Police Department. An investigation into this crash is ongoing, officials said, and it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. Police did not report any injuries to other drivers involved in this incident. This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available. ...read more read less
