One of the most exciting aspects of any Olympics is almost here. The Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Milan Cortina Games will officially introduce Olympians from over 90 countries, ranging from the U.S. to Norway to debutants Benin and more. To host a significant amount of people for what will be a memorable occasion requires a venue that can meet expectations. So, where will the Opening Ceremony for 2026 take place? Here’s what to know for the Italian venue that is embracing the spotlight: When is the 2026 Olympics Opening Ceremony? The ceremony is set for Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. Where is the 2026 Olympics Opening Ceremony? The ceremony will take place at the San Siro stadium in Milan. The stadium is located within the San Siro district of the city. When did the San Siro open? The stadium broke ground in December 1925, just over a century ago. It opened in September 1926, nearing its 100th anniversary. What is the San Siro’s capacity? The stadium’s maximum capacity is just over 80,000, including standing space. It is the largest stadium in Italy and one of the largest across Europe. Who plays at the San Siro? The San Siro is home to two of Italy’s most historic and notable soccer clubs: A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. When the two sides face off, the match is called the Derby della Madonnina, named after the Virgin Mary statue atop the Milan Cathedral. Inter and A.C. Milan are two of the top three Italian teams in terms of Serie A titles, the top flight league in the country. Juventus in Turin leads the way with 36, followed by Inter’s 20 and A.C. Milan’s 19. Those include the 1934 FIFA World Cup, the 1990 FIFA World Cup and its opening ceremony, four UEFA Champions League/European Cup finals and more. Several musical artists have also held concerts at the stadium, beginning with Bob Marley on June 27, 1980. More notable artists followed suit, such as Bruce Springsteen (1985), David Bowie (1987), Michael Jackson (1997), Beyonce (2016), Taylor Swift (2024) and more. The Olympics Opening Ceremony will add to the list. Will the San Siro be demolished? Both A.C. Milan and Inter are jointly building a new San Siro that is slated to be ready by 2030-31. Italy is co-hosting the 2032 UEFA Euros with Turkey, and the current San Siro is no longer considered modern enough for UEFA to approve it for hosting tournament matches. The teams plan to tear down most of the existing San Siro, with the new stadium’s capacity expected to be 71,500. Not all of it will be demolished, though, due to protecting the venue’s historical importance. How to watch the 2026 Olympics Opening Ceremony Here’s where to watch the ceremony on NBC’s platforms.
