(KRON) -- A homicide investigation is underway in Oakland after decomposed human remains were found Sunday morning, according to authorities. Oakland Police Department officers investigating the report of found human remains located a body just after 10 a.m. in the 9700 block of San Leandro Street. The body “appeared to be in a state of decomposition and dismemberment,” OPD said. It is unknown if the body was that of a man or a woman, according to police. An autopsy will determine the identity and cause of death. Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
