A Milwaukee firefighter suffered minor burn injuries while rescuing people from a burning building early Sunday morning near 77th and Green Tree, Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski announced in a social media post.The Milwaukee F ire Department (MFD) says it got a call around 5:30 a.m. reporting a fire in a multi-family home on the 6600 block of N. 77th St.Watch here: What one resident who lives in a multi-family home that caught on fire Sunday morning had to say about the incident. 'You couldn't see anything': Resident recalls scene after eight people were rescued from structure fireUpon arrival, MFD found a working fire in the first floor common hallway with residents hanging out of windows."There was lots of fire and you couldnt see anything. We just heard the alarms," one resident told TMJ4's Makaylah Chavez. A second alarm was requested and several additional units arrived at the scene including units from Wauwatosa and North Shore.MFD also requested a county bus to be at the site of the fire to temporarily shelter the residents that were out in the cold.According to Lipski, there were eight civilians who were rescued, including two infants. Seven rescues were done with ladders and one interior rescue."My neighbors were screaming to take out their baby and the neighbors in the property next door forced their way in and they got the baby out and got the kids out through the window," the resident continued.That resident told TMJ4 that he was already awake and getting ready for work when he heard the alarms. He got his wife and five year old daughter out, taking them two buildings down to stay with family who lived nearby.Two additional people had broken their legs after jumping and according to Lipski, the building seemed to have had no sprinkler system.The Milwaukee Fire Department is currently investigating to determine the cause and origin of the fire.This is a developing story that may be updated as we learn more information.Its about time to watch on your time.
