The Monster Dog Sled Pull once again proved to be one of the most paws-itively popular events of the McCall Winter Carnival, drawing a crowd of spectators and four-legged competitors eager to show off their strength and spirital l for a good cause. Some pups cruised with lighter loads, while larger dogs dug in for a more ruff challenge. One by one, each dog raced down the course, cheered on by a crowd that celebrated every good boy and girl who crossed the finish line.Beyond the fun, the event raising money and awareness for MCPAWS, the nonprofit that operates the regional animal shelter, veterinary hospital, and thrift store in McCall. With over 50 dogs competing, they raised more than $1,000!Theyre not only just a fundraiser to help us raise money to care for the shelter animals, but its also public outreach, said Cortney Bayuk, MCPAWS executive director. Its always surprising how many people in McCall arent familiar with us. Events like this spread awareness and let people know were the resource here if they need us.Motivation for the canine competitors was high, with tasty treats waiting at the finish line. For many owners, the Monster Dog Pull was less about winning and more about letting their dogs do what they love mostrun, play, and socialize. Winston absolutely loves other dogs and he loves to run, and hes been on a leash all weekend, said Tyler Schilperoort, Winstons owner. I figured itd be fun to just let him rip.
