Colorado College fell just short of earning a win in a wild overtime game on Friday. The Tigers made sure to leave no doubt on Saturday.  CC dominated visiting Arizona State from the opening faceoff to the final horn for a 4-1 victory at Ed Robson Arena. With the win, CC (11-12-3, 5-8-3 NCHC) to ok four of an available six points toward National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings on the weekend.  The Tigers bludgeoned Arizona State 42-22 in shots and stymied the Sun Devils’ nationally 12th-ranked power play unit, holding them to one power-play goal in five opportunities. The visiting team’s score blemished an otherwise perfect evening for freshman netminder Jackson Unger, who made his second-career start on Saturday.  The rookie out of Calgary, Alberta, stopped 21 shots and came within 16 seconds of his first-career shutout.  It was also a good night for freshman left wing Tomas Mrsic who opened the scoring on Saturday. Mrsic capped off a blistering weekend with this third goal of the series and fifth of the season, scoring on a rebound on a shot made by junior linemate Bret Link at 17:19 of the first period.  The Tigers outshot the Sun Devils 25-6 in the first period. They kept the pressure on the visitors with a 10-5 margin in the second period. Sophomore defenseman Seth Constance scored at the 5:07 mark of the middle frame. CC struck right after a penalty kill as junior center Klavs Veinbergs found Constance in the slot. The goal is Constance’s second of the season.  Tigers junior left wing and assistant captain Drew Montgomery made it 3-0 CC in the third period. He netted his fourth goal of the season from the left circle at the 5:07 mark.  Finally, senior center Ryan Alexander, who transferred in the offseason from Arizona State, scored his second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season, with the empty-net score at 19:53 of the period.  Despite the dominant outing, CC’s power play was poor as the Tigers went 0-5 on the man advantage.  CC moved up to a tie for eighth place of nine in the NCHC standings alongside the Sun Devils. The Tigers will battle rival Denver for the Gold Pan next week.  ...read more read less
