Pulaski Bridge partly stuck in upright position for 2 hours before reopening
Jan 31, 2026
The Pulaski Bridge was partially closed due to a mechanical malfunction Saturday afternoon for around two hours after half of it got stuck in an upright position.
The drawbridge — which connects Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and Long Island City, Queens, across Newton Creek — was jammed as traffic piled
up on its northbound side. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes as traffic was backed up near the bridge, the city’s Department of Transportation said.
Southbound traffic on the bridge was unaffected.
“The Pulaski Bridge is STUCK! Please don’t try to use it,” local Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher said on X during the partial shutdown.
Replying to her post, DOT chimed in, “We’re on it!”
Shortly after 5 p.m., the city’s NotifyNYC announced, “Update: Pulaski Bridge has reopened. Residual traffic is expected.”
