San Jose man killed in motorcycle crash in Santa Cruz County

(KRON) — A 31-year-old man from San Jose died in a motorcycle crash on Highway 9 in Santa Cruz County Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding south of Highway 35 at an unknown speed when his 2017 Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle crashed. Paramedics and CHP officer
s responded to the crash at about 5:54 p.m. and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
“For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the Suzuki, and the Suzuki collided with the asphalt roadway,” CHP said. “After the initial crash, the Suzuki and the driver continued in a southerly direction and travelled off the roadway. The motorcycle crashed [into] a tree, and the driver came to rest down an embankment.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
“Lt.Boles, Acting Commander of the CHP Santa Cruz Area office, would like to remind everyone that it is important for motorcyclists to minimize their risks by riding responsibly; always wearing a helmet and other protective gear; and never riding after consuming alcohol or drugs, while fatigued, or a combination thereof,” CHP said.
