WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A fire has destroyed the Dessie Scott School and gym in Wolfe County after flames broke out late Thursday night. Officials say the fire resulted in a total loss of the building. No one was inside the school at the time of the fire, and authorities say no injuries have been reported. Officials say crews worked under extremely difficult conditions due to ice-covered roads and dangerously cold temperatures. School officials met Friday to decide what to do going forward after the fire. Dessie Scott Children’s Home has served children in need for decades and is considered a cornerstone of the Wolfe County community, providing care and support to children from across Kentucky and the United States. School leaders ask the community to keep students and staff in their thoughts and prayers as recovery efforts begin. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
