    The National Weather Service has put a Winter Storm Watch/Warning is in place for much of the region, starting Friday afternoon and running through early Sunday morning.  Tonight stays calm and quiet, with the chill remaining in place. Looking ahead to the weekend, all eyes are on a system moving in from the south and west. Right now, the setup supports the chance that snow will move into the Charlotte area this weekend. While there’s still some wiggle room on exact snowfall totals, the current thinking supports at least an inch of snow for many. Combine that with gusty winds and plunging temperatures, and travel could become tricky from Saturday into Sunday. Area’s east of Charlotte Metro appears more favored for accumulation at this point, but light snow is on the table for many as the weekend gets underway.  The highest impacts with this storm system will be Saturday and tapering off by Sunday morning.  Once the system moves through, colder air rushes in fast. Early Sunday looks noticeably colder, with highs barely climbing into the low 30s and wind chills making it feel even harsher. That colder air means any snow that falls won’t be in a hurry to melt, so slick spots and travel issues could stick around longer than we’re used to.
