(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Costco’s popular rotisserie chickens are at the center of a potential class action lawsuit. The lawsuit stems from claims that Costco advertises its rotisserie chicken as containing “no preservatives.” However, a filing dated Jan. 22 in a Southern California district co urt alleges the retailer’s seasoned rotisserie chicken contains ingredients that function as preservatives. The lawsuit accuses Costco of false advertising, arguing that the ingredients contradict the company’s preservative-free claims. In a statement to USA Today, Costco said the ingredients in question are used to keep the chicken moist and to ensure consistency during the cooking process. The company added that both ingredients are approved by food safety authorities. Costco also said it has removed labeling and in-store signage referencing preservatives as the issue is reviewed. The case remains pending, and no court ruling has been made.
