Jan 29, 2026
HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — A traffic stop Friday afternoon in Howard County resulted in the arrest of a Russiaville man on multiple felony drug charges, according to Indiana State Police.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2026, Trooper Andrew Baldwin stopped a 2022 Dodge Ram on County Road 100
South near Rollingstone Road. The driver was identified as William D. Whitman, 61, of Russiaville.
During the stop, Trooper Baldwin learned Whitman had active arrest warrants out of Howard County and took him into custody. Baldwin then deployed his K-9 partner, Mack, who alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A search led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Whitman was transported to the Howard County Jail. Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at his residence, where additional suspected methamphetamine — weighing approximately 70 grams — and suspected marijuana were located.
All suspected narcotics will be sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for testing and confirmation.
Whitman was arrested on the following preliminary charges:
Dealing in Methamphetamine (Level 2 Felony) – four counts
Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 3 Felony)
Possession of Methamphetamine (Level 6 Felony)
Possession of Marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
Possession of Paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)
Trooper Baldwin was assisted by members of the Indiana State Police Peru Post, the ISP Drug Enforcement Section, and the Howard County Drug Task Force.
