A Philadelphia man was found guilty of murdering a man at the Jersey Shore in 2023 after he jumped from a third-floor window to escape police, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
This all started on Nov. 7, 2023, when officers with the Atlantic City Police Department were cal
led to South Florida Avenue after a reported shooting, officials said.
When they got to the scene, they said that they found a man who had been shot in the head.
During the investigation into the shooting, investigators reported that the victim was shot less than one hour after he was in a fight with 37-year-old Jamar Jones.
Jones was seen buying a mask at a nearby convenience store before going back to where the victim was and shooting him.
The entire incident was caught on surveillance cameras.
One month later on Dec. 11, Jones was charged with the murder and was allegedly on the run, officials said.
Then, as a SWAT team tried to take Jones into custody on Feb. 20, 2024, he reportedly tried to escape the agents by jumping from a window on the third floor of an apartment building along North Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Jones was badly hurt during the fall and the agents were able to arrest him.
Jones was found guilty of charges including murder and possession of a handgun for unlawful purpose.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 26, 2026.
