RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The city of Richmond has deactivated its temporary emergency shelter following the winter storm. On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the city announced on social media that it had deactivated its temporary shelter located at Southside Community Center, located at 6255 Old Warwick Rd. Ci ty officials said in the post that its Department of Social Services staff, who operate the City Emergency Shelter, will return to their "critical social services work." The Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter, located at 1900 Chamberlayne Avenue, and CARITAS Surge Shelter will continue to remain open, as planned, according to the city. The city said Richmond Public Library locations operate as warming centers during operating hours, and the Main Library is open as a warming center.
