Whoa. That’s A Lot Of Snow At The Blvd/Legion Bus Stop
Jan 27, 2026
Here comes the bus!
Cooper catches his ride.
The snow remains.
Tristan Cooper stood at the edge of a lane of traffic on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard Tuesday — separated from a bus stop bench by mounds of snow.
Cooper lives nearby, and had the day off from his warehouse job. He was on his
way to Edge Fitness in Orange to work out.
Cooper doesn’t have a car, so he walked to the corner of the boulevard and Legion Avenue to catch the 271.
At around noon, Cooper said he’d already been waiting for around 20 minutes. He said the bus was late.
He was also standing in the road — because the area surrounding the bus stop’s bench was covered in several feet of snow, plowed to the side after this long weekend’s winter storm.
“I’m used to it by now,” Cooper said about having to stand on the side of Ella T. Grasso Boulevard at this bus stop as he waits for the 271. Even in the best of weather, this isn’t the most pleasant place to wait, with two lanes of traffic zooming south towards the Hill, West Haven, and the Boston Post Road. The mounds of snow, however, made it feel that much less safe.
What would make this a better bus stop? “Make a shelter,” he said. Something to shield bus commuters from the weather as they’re waiting for their ride.
Five minutes later, the bus pulled up — Cooper got on, and one man got off. What kinds of exercises does he plan on doing at the gym today? “Back and bi’s,” he said. And then he was off, heading down the boulevard.
