Obituary: Marian Ewing “Tina” Smith
Jan 26, 2026
April 1951 – January 15, 2026Marian Ewing “Tina” Smith Tina was born in April 1951 to Rosalie and Rumsey Ewing in St Louis, Missouri. She attended Mary Institute and following elementary school she graduated from the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. She next began her studies at Whitt
ier College in California and following at Denver University, which was a much better fit.
Growing up in St Louis she could usually be found playing tennis or participating in other competitive sports and even hockey. Today, she has four grandchildren who are all hockey players as well.
Many summer vacations were at Tepee Lodge above Big Horn. The Ewing family had many great friends in Wyoming and Tina was very comfortable there also. She was a cabin girl at Paradise Guest Ranch and at the HF Bar for Hank Horton which was very special time for her. At Paradise she met Edgar Smith and they were married two years later, which lasted 53 years until her ride to heaven this January.
Some memories most dear to her were from the years working at the UM Ranch where she helped out where ever needed horseback moving cattle, in the calving barn, in the kitchen cooking for branding crews and icing crews and she was even a Buffalo school board member until moving. She participated in the Buffalo night rodeos pole bending and in equestrian events in Big Horn and could saddle up and ride easily in either Western or English tack. She was always positive, eager, enthusiastically involved and never sat idle.
Betsy and Dodie were born in Wyoming and shortly after Tina and Edgar began a mining career that took the family to several western states as well as South America. She took out the “disruption” caused by this adventurous moving by making certain the kids were in the right schools, had the right teachers, had good friends wherever and were involved in soccer, skiing, swimming, riding and, of course, tennis. Tina made a home at 7595 Outpost Way in Park City. Tina was fiercely competitive, but fun and taught Betsy and Dodie to be also and how to “stick up for themselves”. Many of her old tennis and golf friends can confirm her character. She passed the same on to all her grandchildren, and, as one example, she would pay each hockey player $20 for a goal, an assist and, even, a penalty resulting from effort to win. Wanting to win was more important than winning.
Nothing was more important to her than family from the beginning to the end. Her children, her sons-in-laws and her three grandsons Jonesy, Gunnar and Bronco and her granddaughter Cricket. To her grandchildren she was known as Mom, Tinkerbelle, Gina and Jane. High on the list also were dogs especially her little yellow lab, Sparkles, and Magic. Family trips to hockey games and vacations to Lake Tahoe, Shore Lodge, Sage Lodge and the HF Bar were highlights and unforgettable memories for all. She was the greatest mother, grandmother and wife, a person could ever pray to have.
She had many friends from everywhere and no one will miss her presence, her involvement, and thankfully, her telling us what to do any more than her family. She is survived by Betsy, Ryan, Jonesy and Gunnar Reese; Dodie, Tennessee, Bronco and Cricket McBroom; her sister and brother Robin and Tim in St Louis , their families and Edgar. Rosalie, Rumsey and her brother Rusty preceded her in death.Donations in Tina’s name may be made to St Judes Hospital.
