Editor’s note: This story will be updated throughout the day. The predicted snowstorm finally moved into the southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey region overnight. Sunday morning, the Philadelphia/Mount Holly, New Jersey, office of the National Weather Service, which covers the region, said sn ow and sleet totals should range in the 4- to 8-inch range in southern parts of the region and 12-16 inches in the northern part of the region. The winter storm warning issued several days ago remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday. The NWS forecast also calls for a changeover to a wintry mix including sleet or freezing rain expected to move in this afternoon along the Interstate 78 corridor. A glazing of ice is possible. (BILL UHRICH/READING EAGLE) Expand Road restrictions, speed reductions The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has temporarily reduced the speed limit on several interstate highways in the east central region to 45 mph. Those highways are: Interstate 78 in Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties. Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe counties. Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County. Interstate 176 in Berks County. US 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties. Route 33 in Monroe and Northampton counties. These roads in PennDOT’s District 6 in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties are also under the 45 mph restriction: Interstates 76, 95, 295, 476, 676. U.S. Routes 1, 30, 202, 422. State Routes 63, 100 Spur and 309. The Tier 4 vehicle restrictions announced yesterday by PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission remain in effect on all Pennsylvania interstates including the Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76, Pennsylvania Turnpike I-70, all Pennsylvania Turnpike extensions, US 15 from Interstate 180 to the New York border, US 22 from Route 66 to Interstate 99, US 22 from I-78 to the New Jersey border, US 219 from US 30 to US 22, US 220 from I-80 to I-180, US 322 from I-99 to I-81, Route 28 from I-279 to US 422, the entire length of Route 33. Tier 4 restrictions mean no commercial vehicles, school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted while restrictions are in place. Service notes Tower Health announced Sunday its urgent care centers are closed but virtual urgent care is available for those needing care at https://towerhealth.org/services/virtual-urgent-care . Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority announced Sunday that it is suspending BARTA fixed-route bus service for Monday, noting that if conditions are safe, the service may resume at noon. The BARTA Special Services shared-ride service will operate medically necessary and essential work trips only on Monday. BARTA Administrative offices will be closed on Monday.
