Philadelphia firefighters battle several overnight fires in extreme cold

Firefighters in Philadelphia worked overnight to battle several fires amid bitter winter conditions.
In West Philadelphia, crews responded to a house fire at 50th and Hazel Avenue around 4 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Officials said a woman was taken to the hospital, but her condition i
s not known yet.
Firefighters also responded to a building fire about half a mile away at 52nd and Delancy Streets in West Philadelphia.
Crews had to deal with tough conditions, including heavy ice, while fighting the fire.
No injuries were reported from that fire.
In North Philadelphia, crews fought another fire on North 8th Street near West Norris.
At the scene, water quickly froze as firefighters tried to put out the flames.
Officials said a man was taken to the hospital from the scene, but his condition is not known yet.
The NBC10 First Alert Weather Team said Saturday morning, wind chill temperatures were below 0° after an arctic front passed through our area.
This dangerous cold air is here to stay all weekend long and even after the upcoming storm.
