Jan 23, 2026
Soccer star Trinity Rodman made history Thursday, January 22, when she signed a three-year contract to remain with the Washington Spirit—one that makes Rodman the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world and highest-paid player in NWSL history, worth over $2 million annually, according to
ESPN.
Rodman signed the contract during a live press conference at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles—where she’s currently training with the U.S. Women’s National Team—supported onstage by Spirit owner Michele Kang, CEO Kim Stone, and president of soccer operations Haley Carter.

The 23-year-old forward has been in the national spotlight since she was selected by the Spirit as the second overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft at 18 years old. She barreled to the top, earning 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year honors and later becoming the youngest player in the league to reach 50 career goal contributions.
In 2024, Rodman helped lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to victory in the Paris Olympics, with four goals and an assist during the tournament. She has appeared in 47 total matches for the national team so far.
In a press release from the Washington Spirit, Rodman says the DMV has become her home and she’s excited about where the team is headed. Also quoted in the release, Carter acknowledged Rodman’s critical role in building a strong team and fanbase.
“As we build something sustainable here that our fans can be proud of, Trinity is a foundational piece of that,” Carter says in the release. “I’m looking forward to everything she’s going to accomplish as we compete for championships together.”
With Rodman’s new contract, the Spirit hopes to secure a second-straight appearance at the NWSL Championship in 2026.
