What to KnowThe Philadelphia region, surrounding Pennsylvania suburbs, South Jersey and Delaware are preparing for what’s expected to be the biggest snowstorm in years.A FIRST ALERT will be in effect from Friday, Jan. 23 at 11 p.m., through Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 a.m., for Philadelphia, the surround ing Pennsylvania suburbs, South Jersey and Delaware, due to an arctic blast, heavy snow and freezing rain.The arctic blast will hit the region late Friday night into Saturday. The snow is expected to move into the Philadelphia region around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25. The snow will become heavy on Sunday around 9 a.m. and continue through 2:30 p.m. before changing to a mix of sleet and freezing rain.A prolonged period of freezing rain and sleet is likely through late Sunday evening. Light snow and flurries will also continue to fall into early Monday morning when the system moves out.The Philadelphia region and surrounding suburbs are expected to get 9 to 13 inches of snow, the Lehigh Valley is expected to get 13 to 18 inches of snow, South Jersey is expected to get 5 to 9 inches of snow and coastal Delaware and the Jersey Shore are expected to get 3 to 5 inches of snow.Get the latest forecast by following the NBC10 First Alert Weather team and downloading the NBC10 app. An arctic blast will hit the region late Friday night into Saturday.
