The San Jose Fire Department said it responded to a series of vehicle fires between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Highway 87 and West San Carlos Street near downtown San Jose. A total of nine vehicles were damaged across five locations, authorities said. San Jose police and a fir e department arson team have launched an investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the arson tip line at 408-272-7766. It wasn’t immediately known if Wednesday’s fires are related to a recent car arson spree in the city’s Willow Glen neighborhood.
