Jan 21, 2026
Chula Vista police on Tuesday publicly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man in a bar parking lot late last month.
A warrant to arrest 47-year-old Chula Vista resident Roberto Jacinto Diego in connection with the death of Pablo Hernandez Jr. has been issued, Chula Vista spo
kesperson Sgt. Anthony Molina said. (Online records indicate the warrant has his middle name as Jacinio.)
Molina said investigators believe Diego crossed the border into Mexico.
A reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers is available for information leading to Diego’s arrest.
The shooting was reported about 1:40 a.m. Dec. 28 in the parking lot of a bar on E Street, west of Broadway, the department said last month.
Officers arrived within minutes and found Hernandez suffering from gunshot wounds. They administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and took Hernandez to a hospital. The San Diego man died from his injuries days later, on Jan. 1.
Investigators determined Hernandez was outside the bar with a group of people when he was shot. According to Molina, Diego is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting.
Police asked that anyone with information regarding Diego’s whereabouts or about the homicide contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tips can also be submitted online at sdcrimestoppers.org.
