(KRON) -- A middle school football field in the South Bay will be completely replaced with the help of a record-breaking donation from the 49ers Foundation. An all-out community celebration at Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara will kick off Super Bowl week, team officials announced Wednesday. Th e event, set for Sunday, February 1, will celebrate the upcoming field rebuild and the 49ers Foundation’s single-largest donation in the organization’s history. Joining in festivities will be San Francisco 49ers mascot Sourdough Sam, Gold Rush cheerleaders, and the Niner Noise drumline, along with 49ers alumni, NFL and team executives, and Santa Clara Unified School District leaders. The team said it plans to announce more representatives and 49ers legends that will be in attendance in the days to come. The current Townsend Field at Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara, Calif. “The event will include activities like painting the school’s new Unity mural, photo opportunities with the 49ers Super Bowl trophies and the official Super Bowl LX logo, and a first look at the future field,” the team said. The Buchser's Townsend Field project will replace the existing field and track with an enlarged natural-turf field area and a larger synthetic track, replace all of the bleacher grandstands, replace all stadium lighting and construct a new restroom building, according to the school district.
