UPDATE: Jan. 21 at 11:55 a.m.Officials tell LEX 18 that it took nearly nine hours to extinguish the fire that broke out at several buildings on Main Street in Williamsburg late Tuesday night.According to officials, one person wa s taken to the hospital but has since been released.Officials say the call came in just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, and that upon arrival, heavy smoke was coming from the buildings.According to officials, people were evacuated from the building, and agencies from surrounding counties responded to the scene.The bottom of the buildings housed businesses, while the top floor housed apartments, according to officials.Officials say they are still working to put out hotspots, but Main Street is back open.Original Story:The Whitley County Sheriff's Department reported late Tuesday night that multiple buildings on Main Street in Williamsburg were on fire.The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for District 11 said Main Street was closed due to the fire, and it is unknown when the roadway will reopen.
