Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — We will spend a few hours above freezing for the day today, but even colder Arctic air moves in late week with potential snow accumulation on the way this weekend. Today: Some clouds rolling overhead this morning as a warm front a s passed through to the north, but look for partly cloudy skies later on this afternoon. This will be the mildest day we’ve had in a while with high temperatures topping out into the upper 30s and lower 40s, which is above our seasonable average Tonight: We are mainly clear and colder with breezy conditions at times tonight. Lows will dip down to the upper teens and lower 20s. Late week cold: Our warm-up for Wednesday will be short-lived as a strong arctic front will roll through the state on Thursday. Temperatures will rapidly fall as we go throughout the day. Highs will be in the lower 30s, but by Thursday late night, we will take a big dive into the single digits. Even colder for Friday with highs into the upper single digits and lower teens and overnight lows Friday night likely flirt with zero and wind chill values likely 10 to 20° below zero. Weekend snow: We continue to watch the potential for a massive winter storm that will be moving through the eastern half of the country this weekend. Wow the signs that Still showed that the highest accumulations are going to be south of Central Indiana. we are starting to see some Hintz that we likely get some snow accumulation across portions of our state for the weekend. Well, it’s still a bit too early for specifics. I think a few inches of accumulation are certainly possible as we head into the Saturday afternoon, Saturday night and Sunday morning timeframe. Of course this is all very much subject to change as models continue to fluctuate the track of this system. If you have any travel plans for the weekend, stay up-to-date with the forecast as we continue to get closer to the event. So while we are wishy-washy on how much snow and where the heaviest snow likely falls across the country this weekend, we do feel pretty confident in about how cold it will be for the weekend and beyond. We are entering into an extremely cold pattern not only starting Thursday night but weekend high temperatures will be into the mid teens and overnight lows into the low to mid single digits. 7 day forecast: Early next week is not much better. We begin with highs into the teens on Monday and only jumping into the mid 20s by Tuesday. The extended outlook continues to keep us cold through the end of the month and likely a pretty cold start as we open up the month of February. ...read more read less
