Clinton County rejects data center plan INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Clinton County Board of Commissioners has rejected a rezoning request for a proposed data center near Frankfort, putting the plan on ice for a year. On Tuesday, Commissioners Bert Weaver, Kevin Myers, and Jordan Brewer voted unanimously to turn down the rezoning of 715 acres of farmland for the project. The proposal sought to rezone the land from agricultural to light industrial. The Clinton County Area Plan Commission had voted earlier this month to send a favorable recommendation to the commissioners. Commissioner Meyers attributed his vote to community reaction, saying that most of the feedback he and the other commissioners received about the project was “more against it than for it.” “The biggest concern for me is the property owners–not only those directly affected, but those who live in close proximity to the proposed site,” Meyers said during Tuesday’s meeting. “Given what this has put our community through and given that the majority of our residents are against this project, I cannot support the rezone.” Weaver said that while he felt the project “could be a tremendous boost” for the county and the community, he was “uncomfortable” with recent negotiations. “For the fact that many of us have been affected negatively by the proposed situation, and I have felt increasingly uncomfortable with the recent negotiations, it too is my recommendation that we reject the application.” Commissioner Brewer emphasized that the board’s vote does not mean Clinton County is “not open for business.” “We want development, but we want to work with partners we trust on projects that are economically beneficial to the community as a whole,” he explained. As a result of the board’s decision, a 12-month waiting period is now in effect, meaning that no similar requests can be submitted.
