An 18-year-old Riverside County man has been charged after La Mesa police say he followed a woman home and forced his way inside. The incident happened about 10 p.m. Jan. 12 at an apartment complex on Dallas Street west of Fletcher Parkway, La Mesa police Lt. Travis Higgins said in a news release Tu esday. Higgins said the woman was returning home, entering her front door, when a stranger pushed her inside from behind and began to assault her. She screamed, and her roommate interrupted the attack, Higgins said. The man fled. Using the department’s automated license plate readers, police investigators were able to identify a vehicle that appeared to have followed the woman for several minutes as she returned home, Higgins said. Security cameras in the complex recorded the vehicle parking and a person following the woman to her apartment, according to police. A few moments later, the person was seen running back to the vehicle and fleeing. Police identified the suspect and arrested him the following day at his home in Perris. Prosecutors charged him last week in El Cajon Superior Court with burglary, attempted robbery and two misdemeanor counts of battery for allegedly groping her. ...read more read less
