Swalwell joins in calls to invoke 25th Amendment over Trump Greenland letter

(KRON) -- A Bay Area Democratic congressman has added their voice to a growing chorus of people calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked over a letter President Donald Trump sent Norway's Prime Minister. In the letter, Trump appears to connect his interest in the United States taking over Greenl
and to being bypassed for the Nobel Peace Prize.
"Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace," Trump falsely claims in the letter to Norway's PM Jonas Gahr Støre, adding, "although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America."

The Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded by the Norwegian government but rather by a five-person committee chosen by the Norwegian parliament.
"Regarding the Nobel Peace Prize, I have several times clearly explained to Trump what is well known, namely that it is an independent Nobel Committee, and not the Norwegian government, that awards the prize," Støre said in a statement to Bloomberg.
Trump's letter continued, "Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a 'right of ownership' anyway? There are no written documents, it's only a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also."
"I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland," Trump continued.
The letter revived calls similar to those heard during the first Trump administration for using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. The 25th Amendment pertains to what happens if the president or vice president becomes incapacitated -- either mentally or physically -- and is unable to fulfill their duties.
Under the amendment, members of the president's cabinet could legally remove him from office if they do not believe he is fit to lead.
"Trump's new gigantic temper tantrum over Norway is deep into 25th Amendment territory," wrote Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project on X.
"25th Amendment. Now," tweeted former Republican congressman Joe Walsh.
"Invoke the 25th Amendment," tweeted U.S. Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA).
East Bay Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Livermore) simply tweeted "25," along with a copy of the letter.
No member of Trump's cabinet has signaled any intention of removing President Trump from office.
