Indianapolis Ballet presents Ethereal Blue to Fiery Red
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Ballet will premiere its new production, “Ethereal Blue to Fiery Red,” on Jan. 30, marking a significant milestone as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Indianapolis School of Ballet.
T
his upcoming program pairs the “Ethereal Blue” of George Balanchine’s Serenade — described by the ballet as a hauntingly beautiful masterpiece — with the “Fiery Red” of Ravel’s Boléro. Additionally, there will be a new bolero performance of “Dance With The Hours” by students from the Indianapolis Ballet School.
On Monday, William Robinson, a soloist with the Indianapolis Ballet, joined Daybreak with Don Steffy, the executive director of the Indianapolis Ballet, to discuss the production.
Robinson emphasized the importance of involving young students in performances. He stated, “It’s really a full circle experience, because you get to see them realize, ‘Oh, I could do this for a living,’ or ‘Oh, how much fun I had performing with not only my friends, but the professionals who take and do this every day.'”
The 20th anniversary of the Indianapolis School of Ballet is a significant event, highlighting the school’s success in training dancers who have gone on to perform in prominent companies across the U.S.
“This is the 20th anniversary of the founding of Indianapolis Ballet, Inc., doing business as the Indianapolis School of Ballet, which is still going. So it’s the 20th anniversary of the founding of the school. We’re excited about it,” Steffy said. “We’ve had great, great success with the school. A lot of our dancers are performing in major companies all over the United States. that grew up and trained at the School of Ballet so we want to make sure that we know and let people know that right here in the hometown we have this wonderful School of Ballet.”
The school offers ballet classes starting from ages three and a half up to adult ballet, serving a diverse age range of students.
The performances will take place at Newfields, specifically in the Tobias Theater, on Jan. 30 -31 at 7:30 p.m., and at 3 p.m. Feb. 1. Tickets are currently available here.
